(2026 - ongoing)

I have loved glass for as long as I can remember. Growing up, mosaics were a familiar part of the cities, and I was especially drawn to the ones that covered the facades of buildings like colourful scales.

But as buildings are insulated, renovated, and modernised, these mosaics are slowly disappearing. Once part of the architecture, they are often left behind as fragments on the ground, eventually disappearing altogether.

This project began a few years ago on Cintorínska Street in Bratislava. The Datacentrum building was being renovated, and among the grass, mud, and dirt around the construction site, only a few mosaic tiles remained. I picked them up. That was the beginning.

Since then, I have been collecting fallen fragments of architectural mosaics, often found dirty and forgotten around old buildings. I clean them, melt them and give them a new life as one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery.

Collecting

A tip from locals led me to this place in Dúbravka, a district of Bratislava. By 2026, the post office had already been demolished, but we arrived in time to walk through the ruins and find fragments of its mosaic facade still buried in the ground.

Processing

After collection, the cleaning process started. First, all the dirt, mortar leftovers, and dust needed to be removed.

In a kiln all was heated to a temperature, that melted the glass.

Finding the right kiln setup wasn’t easy, and it was mostly a miracle to get the shape I wanted. Still, I’m a beginner in glasswork.

I was also a bit disappointed that the firing changed the color of the tiles.

After it all the process were working and a piece of architectural history is now alive in a new form.
